Fluoride varnish is applied as a thin coating to help strengthen enamel against acid attacks. The need and repeat interval depend on the child's cavity risk.
A fissure sealant covers the deep grooves on chewing surfaces of back teeth, creating a barrier where toothbrush bristles may not reach easily.
Neither treatment replaces brushing. The best protection combines suitable fluoride toothpaste, effective brushing, balanced nutrition and regular dental reviews.
