After a fall or blow to the mouth, stay calm and first check the child's general condition. Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze if there is bleeding, and use a wrapped cold pack externally for swelling.
Contact a pediatric dentist promptly if a tooth is broken, displaced, loose, darker in colour or the bite feels different. Even injuries that look minor can affect the root or surrounding tissues.
Do not try to reinsert a knocked-out primary tooth. If a permanent tooth is completely knocked out, time matters: hold it by the crown rather than the root and seek urgent professional advice.
Loss of consciousness, nausea, dizziness or significant facial injury requires urgent medical assessment first.
